Here is a roundup of the biggest stories from the news in Warwick this December 2025.

Alongside a host of planning applications, and a number of high profile council decisions, the last four weeks have seen Nub News cover everything from business news to acts of kindness in the local community.

Planned protest at a Warwick hotel used to house asylum seekers

Warwick saw people gather for a planned protest near a hotel in the town, which is being used to house asylum seekers.

The Delta hotel, located on Stratford Road in Warwick was initially established to help with "the massive backlog in cases" nationwide, the town's MP revealed, back in November 2025.

On (11 December) Warwick Police issued a statement sharing its team "maintained a presence in the area throughout to ensure the safety of all present" ensuring the protest was a 'peaceful' one.

A joint statement from Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council previously called for "compassion, and support for people in need" from the community.

A Warwick student became the youngest to run 40 consecutive marathons in 40 different countries

A super-fit university graduate has entered the record books after running 40 consecutive marathons in 40 countries in just four months.

Angus Read, 22, began in 30C (86F) heat in Moldova in August and ended in hospital with exhaustion when he completed his journey on Saturday (13/12).

The former law student came up with the epic endurance challenge - which saw him run more than 1,000 miles in just over 100 days - as a way to see Europe after finishing university back in June.

After starting in the blistering summer heat in Moldova, his travels saw him move through Eastern Europe and into Scandinavia.

He also completed runs along the French coast into Monaco as well as enduring sub-zero temperatures in Iceland, staying in hostels along the way.

And despite suffering a knee injury around half way through, Angus defied the odds and was able to complete his challenge this weekend in London - making him the youngest person ever to run 40 consecutive marathons.

He spent on average two to three days in each country and ran each marathon in around four-and-a-half hours, raising more than £11,000 for Cancer Research UK along the way.

Angus, from Warwick, was able to achieve the Herculean feat despite admitting he did little training for it and "sort of made it up as he went along."

A popular Warwick store launched a major wardrobe reset sale after announcing closure

It's sad news for an independent Warwick boutique known for redefining occasion-wear through its unique hybrid of rental and retail fashion.

Diffuse Retail, on Smith Street in the town is set to close its doors at the end of January 2026.

The closure marks the beginning of a brand reset as founder Hannah Teale steps back to reassess the long-term future of the business.

To celebrate the achievements of the past two years, and to thank the local community for their support, Diffuse has launched a Wardrobe Reset Sale, offering up to 60 percent off all purchased occasionwear throughout December and January.

Founder Hannah Teale said: "The last two years have been an incredible journey; full of joy, ambition, challenges and community. This pause isn't a goodbye. It's a moment to step back, look honestly at what I've built, and consider what Diffuse could become next.

"I'm so proud of how far the brand has come and deeply grateful for the people who have supported it."

New speed hump on horizon for busy road in Warwick town centre

A new speed hump could be installed on a busy road in Warwick town centre, if plans are signed off by Warwickshire County Council.

Residents can have their say on the plans for West Street, near the car park entrance for Warwick Castle.

If approved, the hump would be built on West Street between the junctions with Warwick Castle Drive and Tudor Court.

A report on the council's website said: "The scheme will help improve the environment for residents, pedestrians and cyclists, by restricting vehicle speeds and improving road safety, as well as providing a step-free informal crossing point for pedestrians."

The hump would also see the existing 'pedestrian refuge' in the middle of the carriageway removed and replaced.

Locals have until January 11 to have their say.

'Significant' increase in complaints against Warwickshire county councillors since May elections

There has been a 'significant' increase in the number of complaints against councillors at Warwickshire County Council (WCC), a freedom of information request has revealed.

Figures released this autumn show some 23 complaints have been made against Shire Hall members since the May 2025 local elections.

In the same period last year, there were just four.

Of those 23, all but four were against Reform UK councillors.

The May 2025 elections saw Reform take almost every single seat in the north of the county, with the party taking a minority lead at WCC.

Previously the local authority had been run by a huge Conservative majority.
