Plans for a BT 'street hub' in Warwick's town centre have been blocked by council planners.

If approved, the scheme would have seen the structure installed on Market Street where a phone box used to stand.

Designed as a modern phone box, the hubs carry huge adverts on each side as well as providing Wi-Fi and phone services.

The hubs are double-sided with large internally illuminated LCD display screens on each side.

However, a planning application for the structure was refused by Warwick District Council this month.

A council report said: "The proposed development is considered to result in less than substantial harm to the significance of the Conservation Area, and would amount to visual clutter which would have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of the street scene."
