A planning application has now been submitted for a much-delayed alternative provision school in Warwick, a year after it was planned to open.

Talenton Academy was due to open in September 2025, but the full proposals for the Fusiliers Way school have only just been submitted to Warwick District Council.

The application from G F Tomlinson and the Department for Education show the two-storey school would also have sports facilities, car parking, cycle storage and a multi-use games area.

Talenton will accommodate up to 64 pupils aged between 11 and 16.

It will provide places for "pupils who are struggling in mainstream education," including those with behaviour and social difficulties, those with mental and physical health difficulties, pupils with autism and those who are at "particular risk of self-harm or harm from others".

"Talenton Academy is a transformative project," the planning application said.

"The proposed school has been designed to promote well-being and educational attainment for all learners who use the building and create a project with a low environmental impact."

It was confirmed in late 2024 by Warwickshire County Council that Talenton would be delayed by at least a year.

In early 2025, the county's director of education Johnny Kyriacou described the school as something "that we really need".

The opening date was put back to September 2026, and no new opening date has been confirmed as the planning application has only just been submitted.
