An appeal has been lodged after controversial plans to turn a former Warwick car showroom into shops was refused.

Warwick District Council’s (WDC) planning committee threw out the application from Warwickshire Partnership, at the third attempt.

The application was refused due to a perceived lack of parking and the impact this would have on the neighbouring roads.

But now the developer has submitted an appeal in an attempt to force through the plans.

“The single reason for refusal relies on the assertion that insufficient off-street parking is being provided on the appeal site and that this would be likely to lead to parking on the adjoining public highway causing inconvenience to other road users and harm to the amenity of nearby,” the appeal said. 

“This assertion was not substantiated by any systematic objective analysis during the life of the application that led to this appeal, including in the officer report to committee.”

Warwick District Council will now submit its case to the planning inspectorate before a final decision is made.
