The A46 has now reopened fully in both directions after nearly 24 hours of delays caused by a burst water main.

Warwickshire Police announced at around 7am yesterday morning (August 7) that the road was closed from the Thickthorn roundabout and the Longbridge roundabout due to a burst water main south of the A4189 overbridge.

National Highways said in places the flooding was 75cm deep.

With multiple road closures in place for the Commonwealth Games cycling road race in Warwick, Warwickshire Police had been urging drivers to stay away from the area.

Initially the southbound carriageway was partially reopened at around 12 noon yesterday, and one lane of the northbound carriageway was opened in the afternoon.

But National Highways announced this morning that the A46 was now completely open again.
