Pay Rate: £650 a day inside IR35 via Umbrella

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact Contract Manager role offering genuine ownership of nationally significant HVDC infrastructure programmes at the heart of the UK's energy transition.

You'll act as the lead commercial authority for a major HVDC procurement package, shaping contract strategy from tender through to delivery. These projects sit within a fast-paced, collaborative environment where experienced commercial professionals are trusted to make decisions, manage risk, and protect value for the end consumer.

With responsibility for £100m+ procurement packages, this role suits an experienced Contract Manager who enjoys autonomy, influence, and working on technically complex infrastructure programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end commercial and contract management for a major HVDC procurement package (converter stations or HVDC cables)
• Shape and deliver fit-for-purpose contract and procurement strategies aligned with regulatory and funding requirements
• Manage tendering, commercial negotiation, contract drafting and administration
• Provide commercial leadership across engineering, project delivery, procurement, legal and regulatory teams
• Act as the primary commercial interface with suppliers and joint venture partners
• Identify, assess and manage commercial and contractual risk, feeding into funding and regulatory submissions
• Support the transition from pre-contract into delivery, ensuring delivery teams understand contract obligations
• Monitor contract performance, milestones and value delivery, reporting into budget and governance forums
• Ensure robust governance and compliance with established contract frameworks

Key Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in HVDC infrastructure projects, specifically converter stations and/or HVDC cable systems
• Strong background in large-scale infrastructure contract management, ideally on £100m+ projects
• Solid experience using FIDIC contracts (Silver Book strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated capability in commercial negotiation, contract execution and risk management
• Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, including joint ventures or partnerships
• Background from either client-side or supplier-side roles within utilities, energy, or major infrastructure delivery

Desirable:

• Experience working within regulated energy or transmission environments
• Exposure to dispute resolution within a contract management context
• NEC contract experience alongside FIDIC
• Experience working with DNOs, TSOs or HVDC OEMs
