A growing professional services firm is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Claims Team Leader to lead a small, high-performing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with leadership experience in claims handling or accountancy-related services, looking to take the next step in a role with real influence and visibility. You'll oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy claims function, ensuring efficient and compliant handling of tax-related claims on behalf of a wide client base predominantly accountancy firms. You'll lead from the front in driving excellent service standards, supporting your team through training and mentoring, and working closely with senior management on performance and process improvements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the end-to-end workflow of a specialist tax claims team
  • Leading and coaching a small team, conducting 1:1s, appraisals and performance reviews
  • Acting as a senior point of contact on complex or high-value claims
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry regulations
  • Monitoring claims MI, producing reporting packs and supporting leadership with trend analysis
  • Liaising with clients to ensure service delivery is aligned with their expectations
  • Supporting broader business initiatives and identifying cross-selling opportunities

  • Experience in a claims handling, accountancy, or tax-related environment
  • Previous leadership or team supervision experience
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to interpret policy wordings and regulatory guidance
  • Familiarity with fee protection insurance or working with accountancy practices is advantageous
  • Comfortable working with management information and claims systems

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident working autonomously, while also contributing to strategic decision-making and financial performance. You will play a crucial role in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, and act as a business partner to senior stakeholders across the organisation. Key Responsibilities: Lead the month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting. Produce and present monthly management accounts with insightful variance analysis and commentary. Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections. Business partner with senior operational and commercial teams to drive financial performance and accountability. Analyse key trends and identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue growth. Maintain and improve financial models, reporting tools, and internal controls. Support year-end audit preparation and liaison with external auditors. Mentor and support junior members of the finance team, including Management Accountants or Assistant Accountants. Contribute to ongoing finance transformation projects and systems improvements. Candidate Profile: Essential: Fully qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA). Proven experience in a senior management accounting or finance business partnering role. Strong technical accounting skills and commercial acumen. Advanced Excel skills and confident working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Dynamics). Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence non-finance stakeholders. Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. Desirable: Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or project-based business. Experience with Power BI or other financial reporting tools. Available to start in the next 4-6 weeks or sooner.
