A Stratford Town footballer has been banned for ten years for spot-fixing during an FA Cup tie last November.

Defender Kynan Isaac has been handed the punishment by the FA after he was found to have deliberately picked up a yellow card during last year's 5-1 FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

The 31-year-old was also given a further 18-month suspension after being found guilty of placing, or enabling, 347 bets on matches over a five-year period.

Isaac, who has been at Southern League Premier Central side Stratford since 2018, was booked for a high tackle in the 84th minute of the first-round tie.

Stratford led the game, which was televised on ITV, for 20 minutes before ultimately losing 5-1.

A statement released by the FA last night said Isaac "influenced a football betting market" by "intentionally seeking to be cautioned by the match referee".

The former Reading player plead not guilty on August 19, but has "not engaged with the FA or the charges at all" since, nor did he provide any evidence, the football governing body said.

Isaac was also given another 12-month ban, that will be served at the same time as his decade-long suspension, for failing to provide "telephone billing records, and/or details of his internet service" during an interview in March.

The case was heard by a disciplinary panel with the report saying "a number of individuals placed bets on Isaac being 'carded'" during the Shrewsbury game.

The report also revealed referee Ben Toner said after the match that Isaac should in fact have been sent off for the tackle, having rewatched a video of the incident.
