Warwick MP's Column: Youngsters to parliament, underseas cables and Motionhouse

It has been another busy few weeks in Parliament and back home in the constituency.
Earlier this month, sixth form students from Myton School came down to parliament for a tour and I met them afterwards for a Q&A session about parliament and the work I do there.
They had some brilliant questions and had clearly really valued the chance to see firsthand where so many decisions that have and will influence their lives have been made.
I firmly believe that all young people should get a chance to see parliament and understand that their member of parliament also represents them, not just their parents or guardians.
I'm always keen to join students visiting Westminster and answer any questions they have about the place or what MPs do.
Always good to hear from schools who are interested in arranging a visit, please do get in touch at [email protected]
Elsewhere in parliament, the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy, which I chair, has launched an inquiry into undersea cables and the UK's ability to protect them from threats.
It is particularly relevant following the news last month that the Russian intelligence ship, Yantar, had passed through UK waters.
It is believed the Yantar is used for gathering intelligence and mapping critical underwater infrastructure here in UK territorial waters and more widely.
I had the opportunity this month to speak with Royal Navy personnel and the Minister for the Armed Forces, Luke Pollard MP, and see part of an undersea cable that had been damaged or possibly cut.
A fascinating chance to see up close what these vital cables look like.
These undersea cables are so important, with them carrying 95 per cent of international telecoms.
It is vital we protect them. In this picture, you can see me holding part of an energy cable and the Defence Minister, Luke Pollard MP, holding the smaller data cable.
Finally, turning to local events. I was lucky to see Motionhouse, the UK's foremost contemporary dance company last week as they start their tour of their new production 'Hidden'.
It was a joy to watch and brilliant to see the talent that exists in the heart of our community with Motionhouse based in Leamington.
They had several sold out shows at Warwick Arts Centre last weekend and are now travelling across the country and Europe performing 'Hidden'. They're performing in Birmingham in October and if you can get tickets, I can't recommend it enough. It is truly outstanding and something for us to be so proud of locally.
My congratulations to the fantastic performers, the directors and the wider team. I know so many will join me in wishing them well as they head off on their tour.
As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any issues or concerns you would like to raise with me. I can be reached at [email protected] or on 01926 882006.
