Warwickshire County Council has released its latest update on the over-budget and much-delayed A46 Stoneleigh Junction redevelopment.

Originally due to be finished in the summer 2022, work resumed on site at the start of 2026.

The project - which is now set to cost considerably more than the £38 million originally approved - is due for completion in 2027.

The local authority says "great progress" is being made

Over the past few weeks, completed works include:

  • Completion of the last two wingwall bases
  • Completion of four (of two) stub wall
  • Test panels for feature walls completed to "great success"
  • First delivery of backfill material now delivered and tested
  • Remedial works on the parapet of existing bridge progressing

The council aims to "pour the remainder of the walls this summer".

And in order to "safely carry out essential works associated with the scheme," contractors will need to close the Stoneleigh Road bridge over the A46 on multiple dates.

The closures are scheduled to take place on the following dates:

  • 30 May and 31 May 2026
  • 26 June and 29 June 2026
  • 3 July and 6 July 2026
  • 25 July and 26 July 2026

The last published estimate cost of £57 million is more than two-and-a-half times the £21 million mooted when the project was initially taken forward by the Conservatives in 2016 and 50 per cent more than the £38 million quoted when more detailed plans were rubber stamped.
