Warwick's Jess Carter is set to be honoured with a gold plaque recognising her role in England's European Championship victory this year.

The locally-born Lioness and the 22 other members of the Euro 2022 winning squad will all be given a plaque at a local club or location that was important during the early years of their football career.

Now playing for Chelsea, Jess' plaque will be unveiled at Warwick Juniors where she started her footballing life.

The honours have been organised by Nationwide Building Society and England Football as part of their 'Where Greatness Is Made' campaign.

Jess made her debut for Birmingham City aged 16 against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter final before joining Chelsea in 2018.

She made her debut for the Lionesses in 2017 against Kazakhstan.

In an interview with the BBC earlier this year she said part of the squad's motivation ahead of the Euros was "to inspire people and that is clearly what we have done".

"In order to help them feel more inspired they need to be able to have access to want to play football," she added.

Marzena Bogdanowicz, head of marketing and communications, Women's Football at The FA, said: "I think I can speak for the whole nation when we say we're incredibly proud of what the team have achieved.

"They're truly an inspiration to not only those in the sport, but far and wide too.

"Because of the team's success this summer many young footballers will be inspired to pick up a ball for the first time, get involved in their local club, or begin a lifelong relationship with the game as a fan.

"It's great to see Nationwide Building Society celebrating the 23 players involved and with many plaques at the player's first ever clubs.

"It's a great demonstration of the important role that grassroots football plays in shaping the future of the professional game."
