A number trees could be felled in the car park of Warwick's Tesco unless the district council objects to the plans.

The supermarket chain has applied for permission to fell 11 trees around its Emscote Road store, with works also planned for a further 12.

In its report to Warwick District Council, Tesco said the work was needed due to the "risk of direct damage to structures, people or vehicles caused by trees located at the store address".

A survey of the 63 trees on site had been completed as part of "an estate wide tree survey programme".

Alongside the 11 trees earmarked for felling, the rest will be pollarded, coppiced or have their crowns raised.

Four were classed as 'high risk' with Tesco saying work needed to be completed in the next three months.

The rest needed to be addressed within the next six to 12 months.

Warwick District Council has until April 13 to apply for Tree Preservation Orders to protect the trees.

The council is set to discuss TPO's in the car park of the Nelson Club next week, with WDC trying to prevent the owners cutting back two London Plane Trees.
