Warwick planning roundup: padel plans, stables and McDonald's
By James Smith 23rd May 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Padel Plans
Warwick Boat Club has been given the green light to install three padel courts over two of its existing tennis courts.
The Banbury Road club was last year given temporary permission to keep a 'pop up' court which it installed without permission.
The planning committee at Warwick District Council (WDC) allowed the court to stay in place until March 2026 as neighbours complained about the potential noise impact.
And now a fresh application for the facility has been approved by the same committee despite the objection of Warwick Town Council.
Stables Housing
A four-bedroom home is set to be built at a local stables despite one councillor describing it as "disproportionate".
Cllr Kyn Aizlewood questioned the need for such a big property at Peacock Stables in Rowington, which is said to be needed as a 'rural worker's dwelling'.
A cabin had temporarily been stationed at the site for the past three years following a previous application, but now Warwick District Council's planning committee has approved designs for a permanent house.
McDonald's Moves Forward
'No complaints' have been made about a Warwick McDonald's temporary 24/7 opening times in the past year, councillors have been told.
Warwick District Council has signed off on the Emscote Road business' bid to keep the longer opening times after it was given temporary permission to do so last year.
The business said it is meeting requests from a range of customers who work anti-social hours, including blue light staff and shift workers.
The council's planning committee took no time at all in unanimously approving the move this week.
