Warwick planning roundup: padel plans, mega-lab and leper hospital
By James Smith 24th Jan 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Padel Plans
Town councillors have objected to plans for three new padel courts at a local sports club.
Warwick Town Council has submitted an objection to Warwick Boat Club's latest application for the new facilities.
Last year the club was given temporary permission to keep a 'pop up' court it installed last year after a retrospective application was submitted.
Mega-Lab Move
Council planners have given the green light to change the use of the former Covid-19 'mega lab' at Precision Park which has sat empty for nearly two years.
The Rosalind Franklin Laboratory has sat empty since March 2024 when it ceased to be a mass testing laboratory.
The Harrison Way building has been on the market since but there have been no takers.
Leper Hospital Boost
The project to restore St Michael's Place, in Warwick, received a significant boost this week.
This is thanks to a large award from the Architectural Heritage Fund as one of 10 new Capital Grants through their Heritage Revival Fund.
The project aims to save historic buildings at an 800-year-old scheduled ancient monument site and transform them into new affordable rent homes.
