Warwick park's play area set for revamp

The play area at St Nicholas Park looks set to get a revamp with a council report saying it shows "significant signs of wear and tear".
Warwick District Council's (WDC) cabinet will next week discuss plans to renovate the facility in the town centre park.
If approved, the scheme would see the play equipment replaced and upgraded as well as the whole area resurfaced.
"Unfortunately, the play area has had little investment in recent years and whilst still functional, it is showing significant signs of wear and tear with many play items at the end of their life," a council report said.
"Several play items are also frequently out of action for prolonged periods, due to difficulties getting replacement parts, which is a particular issue for older pieces of equipment."
A recent survey of parents at Evergreen School found 74 per cent of them take their children to the park.
WDC said this highlighted the importance of the facility to local families.
The report continued: "The existing play equipment in St. Nicholas Park lacks key components which would be included in the replacement play equipment, and the current offering has limited equipment for people with accessibility issues.
"As mentioned, large pieces of equipment are also often inoperable due to difficulties sourcing replacement parts and spares due to the age of the equipment.
"Overall, the current play experience is lacking, and it does not provide a coherent play experience.
"For example, several of the large play pieces have been wholly or in part removed so are no longer play items, there is a sand area adjacent to the loose mulch which easily gets mixed.
"This is particularly apparent in the play provision for older children which is limited in terms of variety and level of provision."
The proposals for the play area come as WDC renovates the paddling pool at St Nick's.
Work on this is due to finish in September 2025.
"A new play area would provide direct and indirect economic benefits to the wider park and the town area, particularly from visitors from the wider region," the report added.
"Examples being generating more car parking income and income for facility operators."
