A Warwick hotel is set to close for around three months to house asylum seekers.

Fences have been erected around the Delta Hotel on Stratford Road, with security also on site.

Local residents have told Nub News the hotel could house around 300 people - although this figure is yet to be officially confirmed.

The hotel's sign has also be covered over and bookings cannot be made through the company's website.

"The hotel has been temporarily closed for three months and will then reopen," a Marriot Delta Hotel spokesperson said.

"Until then we have a contract with the government."

Warwick District Council has also released a statement saying it does "not get involved in the placement of asylum seekers".

It said: "It is advised by the Home Office once they have commissioned the hotels.

"Warwickshire Police are aware of a situation, and will be monitoring over the weekend alongside partner organisations."

Over the past few years the Riverside Hotel on the edge of Kenilworth has been used to house asylum seekers, while the Holiday Inn in the same town was used as a so-called 'quarantine hotel' during the pandemic.
