Warwick Town Council's volunteer group, 'Unlocking Warwick', has announced its programme of social events for residents and visitors for 2026, starting with monthly teas with a talk and a quiz in the Regency ballroom.

Called 'In The Ballroom' after the Cluedo game, these get-togethers will happen at 2pm on the second Wednesday of the month until the end of the year.

Secretary Rick Thompson said: "We've arranged a great line-up of speakers, beginning with the celebrated Warwickshire author, Sheila Woolf, on March 11, who will be telling us about the relationships between rich Americans and English debutants after WWII.

"These talks and teas are extremely popular, so it is important to reserve your place at the Visitor Information Centre; pop in or call them on 01926 492212."

The volunteers also organise monthly sessions of board games in the ballroom on the fourth Tuesday of each month, when local people get together to play cards, dominoes, Yahtzee or Scrabble while enjoying some home-made cake and friendly conversation.

Organiser Sue Rigby said: "Board Games in the Ballroom is a lovely way to make new friends and have a laugh. But please book at the Visitor Centre so that Helen our expert cake-maker knows how much cake to bring."

And Good Friday on 3 April will see the return of the Unlocking Warwick 'Court House Tours'. At selected weekends through the summer, the Town Council volunteers, will resume their free tours around the Court House for visitors and residents. And the building is currently celebrating its tercentenary.

Between 10.30 am and 11.15 am, guests will stroll around the Grade-1 listed building in Jury Street – the Old Court House, Town Hall and Visitor Centre - while guides tell of its construction between 1725 and 1728 after the Great Fire of Warwick, and introduce visitors to the eleven-hundred-year history of the town.

Rick Thompson said: "This will be our 10th year of conducting summer tours round the Court House. During the tours, as well as talking about the 300-year-old Court House, the guides will relate stories of some of the big personalities that shaped Warwick after its founding in the tenth century by Aethelflaed, the Anglo-Saxon Lady of the Mercians.

"Why six hundred years later were the town's burgesses ejected from their Guildhall at the Westgate by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leycester, and obliged to move to the present site at the central crossroads? So far over the years, more than a thousand people have come on our tours."

After Easter, The Court House Tours will be on the following Saturdays throughout the summer: 2 May , 6 June , 4 July, 8 August , and during Heritage Open Days on 12 September and 19.
