A county and district councillor from Warwick has been suspended by the Green Party.
Cllr Sam Jones, who represents Warwick North on Warwickshire County Council and Warwick All Saints & Woodloes on Warwick District Council, has had his profiles on the websites of both authorities updated to say he is currently serving as an independent.
His group leader at county level Cllr Jonathan Chilvers declined to comment individually and on behalf of the Warwick District Green Party and referred to the national party's press team.
A statement from the national party read: "The Green Party does not comment on individual disciplinary cases but we can confirm that a suspension pending investigation implies no fault while an investigation is carried out by the Green Party of England and Wales.
"In the case of a councillor suspended pending investigation, they cannot sit in Green groups on councils, attend Green Party meetings or carry out Green Party activities for the duration of the suspension."
When asked for reasons for the suspension, a national party spokesperson declined to pass further comment.
Cllr Jones confirmed the suspension but also declined to comment on the reasons for it, why he would not divulge those reasons or whether he would be prepared comment once any process was exhausted.
He also declined to comment on whether he intended to remain with the Green Party beyond any investigation or how long he expected the process to take.
Asked whether he faced any code of conduct complaints, Cllr Jones said he was "not aware of any at either council".
His statement read: "I will continue to serve the interests of the people of Warwick North and All Saints & Woodloes to the best of my abilities." It added that he would not make any further comment.
Cllr Jones won his county seat as a Green gain from Labour in May 2025, achieving more than double the votes gained by his closest rival – Reform UK's David Norris.
He won his district seat through a by-election in February 2025, again seeing off a Reform UK candidate in second place, after independent John Sullivan, who initially won his seat as a Labour candidate, stood down on health grounds.
