A Victorian villa could be turned back into a care home if plans are signed off by Warwick District Council.

Westgrove House Ltd has applied for planning permission to convert Clarence House on Warwick New Road from a 23-bed house in multiple occupation (HMO) to a 21-bed residential care home.

The application submitted to the local authority said the property was converted from an 18-bed care home to its current use in 2016.

Built in 1892 the house has previously been extended at the back, but this latest scheme will not see any external alterations to the property.

However, the number of parking spaces will be increased from six to nine, and an ambulance parking bay will also be included.

"We believe the proposals are a well-considered, quality addition to this area of Leamington Spa," the application said.

"The proposals follow the principles of the local design guide and planning policy documents.

"It is sympathetic to the scale and proportions of the development site."
