The 'convenience charge' for using the RingGo parking app in Warwick car parks will be scrapped from the start of March.

The change means that motorists will be able to pay for their parking in any of Warwick District Council's off-street carparks from their smartphones without incurring an additional fee.

The council said the change, which will start on March 1, came "in response to the rise in demand for cashless parking".

"We are delighted to offer customers the option of using RingGo when paying to park in our off street and multi-storey facilities," said Cllr Alan Read, portfolio holder for environment and neighbourhood services.

"It is convenient, as people don't need to carry cash and users can also extend their stay remotely without having to return to their vehicles."

Many of the WDC car parks no longer have cash payment as an option, and many users have complained about the long wait times incurred when using the card readers.

The council also sparked local frustration in January by announcing increased parking charges which it blamed on "reduced demand" for car parks during the pandemic.
