Local residents have the chance to help preserve Warwick's Lord Leycester.

The public can now sponsor and sign their names on tiles on the new roof of the great hall at the medieval site.

Work began on the £4.8 million project last September, and the visitor attraction is set to reopen this summer.

Partly funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project will see the building transformed into a modern, authentic visitor attraction.

The grant, awarded in November 2021, will also see a new gift shop café and ticket office built in the Grade I and Grade II listed buildings.

Works so far include widening walkways and installing a lift to make the second-floor Guildhall - which is the ancient meeting room for the Guilds of Warwick - accessible to everybody.

The "in a lifetime opportunity" leave a message on one of the new tiles on the Great Hall roof will cost a minimum donation of £25.

You will be given a whole tile to sign, write a message or draw a picture on.

The site was recently visited by local MP Matt Western who said it was a "real privilege" to see the renovations up close.

The Lord Leycester's first female Master, Dr Heidi Meyer added: "The Lord Leycester is one of the oldest and most important medieval sites in Europe.

"It is an undiscovered gem that with this major improvement project we want to put on the map as a must-see heritage site in Warwickshire."

The hospital will also be hosting an open day on Saturday, April 1 between 10am and 3pm.

Tours will run around the clock and expected to last no more than 30 minutes each.
