With less than 100 days to go until this year's South Warwickshire Literary Festival the three winners of the accompanying writing competition have been announced.

As part of the festival, which takes place on Saturday 21 September, authors from around the globe were invited to send in pieces of fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry for this year's writing competition.

Now, the judges' decisions are in and the winners can be revealed.

Richard Chapman's piece Vivit Post Funera Virtus won the fiction category, with David Gilbert and Jaime Gill being picked as runners up.

Bagsy-blobsy No Back Answers by Jan Kaneen won the creative non-fiction category, with Christine Hogarth and Letty Butler taking the runners up slots.

Finally, the anonymous Fossil took the poetry prize, with Cecilia Rose and Teddy Todd-Hinton picked as runners up.

All of the winners and runners up will have the opportunity to read their pieces on the main stage during the festival in September.

Festival Director Jacci Gooding said: "We were thrilled with the standard of entries this year, and I don't envy the judges having to pick the winners and runners up! It was also a delight to see authors from all around the world participating, and something we definitely didn't expect. I really hope our winners will be able to join us in September and share their fantastic work with our festival goers."

This year's South Warwickshire Literary Festival takes place on Saturday 21 September at Victoria House in Leamington, and will feature a mixture of talks, workshops and even an open mic slot.

Tickets start from just £10 and can be purchased online here.

The festival team will also be at the Warwick Pursuits Festival on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June in St Nicholas Park and Leamington Spa's inspirational Art in the Park event on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August in Jephson Gardens.
