Councillors will this week decide whether a local Aldi supermarket can add a new entrance to its car park.
The discount supermarket chain has applied for permission to add a new access point to its store at Tachbrook Park Drive.
Currently customers can only access the car park from the roundabout at the entrance to Leamington Shopping Park.
But if plans are approved, the delivery entrance off Queensway would be made useable for shoppers.
The application is due to be discussed by Warwick District Council's planning committee on Tuesday (13 January).
Five members of the public and Warwick Town Council have objected to the scheme, with the latter saying the new entrance is unsafe and would create a "rat-run" between Queensway and Tachbrook Park Drive.
However, council planners have recommended the application be approved.
"The Transport Statement considers that the proposal offers a net benefit to the operation of the Queensway roundabout as a second access would be expected to improve access and reduce travel distances for customers," a council report said.
It added: "Subject to conditions and notes, officers are satisfied that the development will not give rise to harm to highways safety."
