Controversial roadworks for Taylor Wimpey's new housing development in Hatton are set to begin this month.

Locals have continued to campaign against the roadworks around the Union View estate, saying they face 11 months of queues and disruption.

The works to widen the road, build a pedestrian crossing point, and to improve footways, cycleways, drainage and street lights were due to begin in October but will now start on November 20.

Warwickshire County Council has promised to keep disruption to a minimum.

Work on the highway will pause for around two weeks over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, from Friday 22 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024.

A council spokesperson said: "We would like to thank residents for their continued support and attendance at the recent evening engagement forum.

"We continue to listen, along with our partners in the scheme, and provide answers wherever we can.

"The scheme is essential and there are limits to how far we can make adaptations as the work moves forward.

"However, we urge residents to keep talking to us and to keep sharing ideas and views.

"We can assure people that we will keep them informed and we will be doing all we can to ensure the work is carried out as smoothly and quickly as possible, with minimal disruption."

Speaking in support of frustrated locals, MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western told Nub News: "It is clear these roadworks will cause significant, long-term disruption to residents in Hatton who will face massive traffic delays to their everyday lives.

"I have shared residents' concerns since these plans were first approved in 2018. Too many housing developments are being built without the necessary infrastructure to accompany them – roads, schools, GPs, community centres etc.

"They are not optional, they are essential. It is time we told developers you are only welcome to build housing here if you commit to these things too.

"I urge Warwickshire County Council and the developers to fully consider the points raised by residents and not force them to live with this huge disruption for almost a year."
