Road closures confirmed for Tour of Britain's visit to Warwickshire

Road closure details have been released ahead of the Tour of Britain's visit to Warwickshire.

The major cycling event will head to the county on Friday 5 September, taking the riders all the way from Atherstone in the north to Burton Dassett in the south.

The 116.2 mile route will get underway at 10.30am and will finish with a circuit around Burton Dassett Hills Country Park.

Warwickshire County Council has confirmed there will be lengthy road closures for some sections of the route, as well as a rolling road closure 10 to 15 minutes ahead of the race indicated by police escort vehicles.

In the south of the county the following road closures will be in place on 5 September: 

  • Village Road (Burton Dassett) 0.01am - 4pm
  • Dassett Road, Burton Hills Road (Burton Dassett) 5am - 6pm
  • Banbury Road (Burton Dassett) 1.30pm - 3.30pm
  • Dassett Road and Banbury Road (Avon Dassett) 1.30pm - 3.30pm
  • 13:30 – 15:30

The South Warwickshire section of the route

The rolling road closures will be in place on the following roads in the south of the county:

  • Leamington Hastings (Southam Road, Birdingbury Road)
  • Birdingbury (Birdingbury Road, Leamington Hastings Road, Marton Road)
  • Marton (Birdingbury Road, Coventry Road)
  • Frankton (Oxford Road)
  • Princethorpe (Oxford Road, Leamington Road)
  • Wappenbury (Leamington Road)
  • Weston under Wetherley (Leamington Road)
  • Cubbington (Rugby Road, Windmill Hill, Offchurch Road, Welsh Road)
  • Offchurch (Welsh Road, Radford Road, Offchurch Lane)
  • Radford Semele (Offchurch Lane, Southam Road, Fosse Way)
  • Harbury (Fosse Way)
  • Chesterton (Fosse Way, Banbury Road)
  • Ashorne (Bromson Hill, Ashorne Road)
  • Newbold Pacey (Newbold Road)
  • Wellesbourne (Newbold Road, Kineton Road, Friz Hill)
  • Compton Verney (Bowshot Island, Compton Hill)
  • Combrook (Spring Hill)
  • Kineton (Combrook Road, Pittern Hill, Warwick Road, Bridge Street, Kineton Road)
  • Butlers Marston (Bridge Road, Pillerton Road, Kineton Road)
  • Pillerton Priors (Banbury Road)
  • Fulready, Ettington (Halford Road, Whatcote Road)
  • Halford (Halford Road)
  • Whatcote (Whatcote Road, Idlicote Road)
  • Idlicote, Honington & Tredington (Idlicote Road)
  • Shipston-on-Stour (Stratford Road, Church Street, Mill Street)
  • Barcheston (Brailes Road, Barcheston Village Road)
  • Brailes (Brailes Road (Honington/Fant Hill), Fant Hill, Main Road, Castle Hill Lane (Upper Brailes), Chelmscote Road)
  • Compton Wynyates (Chelmscote Road, Shipston Road)
  • Tysoe / Upper Tysoe (Shipston Road, Main Street)
  • Lower Tysoe (Main Street, Lower Tysoe Road, Radway Road, Sunrising Hill)
  • Edge Hill (Sunrising Hill, Edge Hill Lane)
  • Ratley (Camp Lane)
  • Warmington (Camp Lane, Banbury Road)
  • Avon Dassett (Banbury Road, Dassett Road)
  • Burton Dassett (Banbury Road, Dassett Road, Burton Hills Road)
  • Fenny Compton (Dassett Road)
  • Farnborough (Dassett Road)

Parking restrictions will be in place on the following roads, effective from the night before (4 September) until the event has completed:

  • Ashorne Road (Ashorne)
  • Newbold Road, Kineton Road (Wellesbourne)
  • Warwick Road, Bridge Street (Kineton)
  • Main Street (Tysoe)
  • Edge Hill Lane (Edge Hill)

The riders are expected to reach Cubbington any time from 12.30pm to 1pm, with the first circuit expected to start between 2.15pm and 3pm.
