Just weeks after it opened its doors for the first time, we were invited down to try 44 Café Bar and Bistro in Leamington Spa.

The Clarendon Street Venue, which used to be Casa Valle, is run by Windmill Hill Brewing Company - the latest chapter in the company's growth.

Having recently enjoyed an exceptional tour at the nano-brewery, we arrived at 44 with high expectations.

And they were definitely met, as we enjoyed a really pleasant evening at the new venue.

Upon arrival it was clear the high levels of customer service we received at the brewery have transferred over to the business.

We received a warm welcome and were invited to chose where we sat - opting to head to the slightly quieter dining area to the rear of the bar.

For drinks I had a pint of the session IPA - one of the range of Windmill Hill beers served on draft at 44. I was particularly excited to have another pint of this, having enjoyed it so much during the brewery tour.

My partner opted for a Raspberry Gin Sour from the extensive cocktail list. And with it being such a hot day - it didn't last long!

For starters we each chose from the bar's new tapas menu.

When the bar first opened the owners said they wanted these small plates to be "food simply done but done well, with big flavour" - and that certainly was the case.

I enjoyed a surprisingly large portion of patatas bravas - covered in lots of spicy tomato sauce.

Meanwhile my companion had a dish of chorizo in red wine sauce, which was received equally as well.

Moving on to mains I had a 'Spicy 44' pizza from the bar's pizza and bread menu.

Topped with spicy beef and jalapenos, the thin based pizza was a real treat, and complimented the ale really well.

My partner opted for the chicken caesar salad - again a generous, fresh portion which was thoroughly enjoyed.

While we could not steal ourselves to fit in a desert - owing to the large portions - I was extremely tempted by the biscoff cheesecake, which I will definitely be saving space for on my next visit.

Overall the evening was a real treat and 44 is certainly a great addition to the town centre.

While we went during the early evening, the venue is also open during the day to serve coffee and homemade cakes.

And with its welcoming and comfortable bar area, it is definitely worth stopping for a drink later in the night.
