Residents invited to public meeting on controversial Barford quarry plans
Local residents have been invited to a public meeting to see plans for a controversial sand and gravel quarry near Barford.
Smiths Concrete is set to submit a planning application to Warwickshire County Council for the Wasperton Farm site later this year.
The company is inviting residents to give feedback at an exhibition at Barford Youth and Community Centre on Wednesday, May 25 from 1pm to 9pm.
Residents are also able to have their say on the 89 hectare quarry online up until 8 June.
A statement on the Smiths website said: "Our proposals would see the extraction of around two million tonnes of aggregates over 10 to 15 years of operation, with the material being used mostly in local projects.
"The extraction of sand and gravel involves removing only the top three or four metres, so a sand and gravel quarry looks very different from a hard rock one and has a limited impact on the landscape.
"And, we would screen the site with three to five metre-high wildflower embankments – also known as bunds – protecting the view as well as minimising noise and dust."
The company also said it wants to minimise the impact on neighbours by creating a new access road and junction onto the A429 and placing the processing plant away from homes.
However residents have, over the past seven years, been battling the plans through the 'Stop the Quarry Campaign'.
The site is part of Warwickshire County Council's Mineral Plan which was subject to a public consultation until January 2022.
Smiths already operates quarries at Wolston Fields Farm and Bubbenhall in Warwickshire.
