A fundraising campaign has been launched to bring state-of-the-art equipment to Warwick Hospital, helping breast patients receive more of their care closer to home.

The appeal is being led by SWFT Charity, the charitable arm of South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, and aims to fund equipment for the Helen Clark Suite at Warwick Hospital.

The appeal has raised £510 towards its £300,000 fundraising target so far.

The equipment would allow patients who need a wire insertion procedure following breast imaging to have it carried out at Warwick, rather than travelling to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire before returning for surgery.

The procedure involves inserting a thin wire to mark the position of an area identified during breast imaging, helping surgeons locate it during an operation.

Currently, patients requiring the procedure must travel to Coventry to have the wire inserted before returning to Warwick Hospital for their surgery.

Bringing the equipment to the Helen Clark Suite would allow this stage of their treatment to take place at Warwick Hospital, reducing additional journeys and helping patients remain under the care of the same team.

The equipment would also enable mammography-guided biopsies to be carried out locally, allowing suspicious areas to be sampled and assessed to help clinicians plan the next stage of treatment.

SWFT Charity said: "Your donation will help us fund the equipment needed to provide wire insertion at Warwick Hospital.

"This will help patients receive their care at the Helen Clark Suite, without travelling to Coventry for this procedure.

"This equipment will also strengthen diagnostic services at Warwick, enabling mammography-guided biopsies so suspicious areas can be sampled and assessed locally, helping our clinicians plan the next stage of care."
