£200k announced for Warwick flood defence scheme

£200,000 has been allocated to a flood defence scheme in Warwick.
The funding has been allocated to St John's Brook as part of the government's Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management scheme.
Over two years some £2.65 billion will be given to the Environment Agency (EA) for a series of projects nationwide.
Following the announcement, MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western said it is " very welcome".
"£200,000 has been allocated to the project and will hopefully go someway to helping prevent the flooding we often see in this area of Warwick in very wet weather."
While full details of the scheme have not been announced, EA, has recently revealed plans for a defence scheme along the A46 to pre-empt future flooding issues along St John's Brook.
Plans put forward to the local authority state there is a "very significant risk of flooding" from the brook at 271 homes in Warwick, particularly around Exham Close and Woodloes Estate.
EA said "significant" flooding had occurred there in 1998, 2007/8 and in 2012.
Currently there are no formal flood defences around St John's Brook.
