Plans to turn 'dilapidated' Warwick shop into family home revealed
Plans to turn a "dilapidated" Warwick shop into a family home have been put forward to the district council.
If approved, the planning application would see the vacant shop on Smith Street turned back to residential use, to create a "family home".
The application submitted to Warwick District Council says the grade II listed unit has been empty since October 2022, with all the previous businesses proving unviable.
"Given the lack of success of the recent businesses housed within the property, the proposal is that the retail room be returned to residential use as part of the property as a whole, to create a single family home," the application said.
"The works will bring this dilapidated and empty building back into use and improve its condition and appearance.
"This will itself improve the appearance of the street as a whole and the setting of the adjacent listed buildings."
The scheme would see little external work on the building aside from repairing the windows and doors and reinstating a window to the rear.
Internally the upstairs shower room would be moved to create one bathroom.
A supporting statement from local property agent Wareing and Co also supported the change of use.
"Despite viewings, the feedback has been that the location is not suitable given the lack of footfall in that area, meaning any business will struggle to survive," it said.
"It is my opinion that the property is more suitable for residential conversion." Wareing and Co."
