Plans to improve cycleway through St Nicholas Park announced
Plans to improve the cycle path through St Nicholas Park have been announced by Warwickshire County Council today.
The project will see the widening of cycle route 41 which links Myton Road to Emscote Road.
Work is planned to start on Monday 4 April and is expected to be finished by the end of May.
It will be completed in two phases, starting with the north section from Emscote Road to the River Avon bridge before completing the southern section to Myton Road.
Warwick District Council has agreed to give small sections of land to WCC to complete the scheme.
Cllr Heather Timms said the plans showed the county council's commitment to promoting active travel.
"In line with our ongoing commitment to meet climate change and carbon footprint reductions we believe this improved cycling and walking route is a green incentive that is going in the right way to help us achieve our vision for a cleaner county for us all to live," the portfolio holder for environment, climate and culture said.
"We are fully behind the improved route and will continue to engage with our colleagues in Warwick District Council's green spaces team to progress with this and other such climate friendly initiatives."
District councillor Cllr Alan Rhead added: "This is a significant part of our plans to make cycling and walking in and around Warwick safer and more accessible and to reduce traffic congestion.
"The path is an important link to Myton School, Warwick School and Kings High and Coten End Primary School as well as major industrial estates and new and planned housing developments. It is hoped that the improvements will encourage further use of this route."
Funding has come from the government's 'Getting Building Fund' through the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).
