Plans for £7.8m extension at Warwick school to provide more SEND spaces revealed
Plans to build a two-storey extension at a Warwick school to increase the number of SEND school places have been revealed.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) revealed last year £7.82 million will be invested at Evergreen School to help create around 40 new places.
The school, which was formed in September 2020 following the merger of Ridgeway School and Round Oak School, has two sites in Warwick - on Deansway and Brittain Lane.
The funding will be spent at the latter, where most of the older students are based.
A planning application has now been put forward by WCC which includes seven new classrooms, therapy rooms and new sports pitches.
"The application principally seeks to enhance the overall level and quality of teaching facilities on offer at the site," the plans said.
"It seeks to do so by erecting a new, two-storey, teaching block capable of accommodating in the region of 60 no. additional students.
"The proposed facility has been designed so as to act as a 'life skills centre' and is to accommodate specialist equipment to best prepare Evergreen's older, post-16 students for life outside of education.
"Notwithstanding that fact, it is envisioned that the building would also be utilised by Evergreen's younger students.
"This includes but is not limited to the provision of a gym (complete with specialist equipment), life skills room and therapy spaces, in addition to flexible teaching spaces."
The application also says the site will enter into a community use agreement, meaning members of the community would be able to use some of the sports facilities.
Plans show there would be four grass playing pitches.
