Petitioners are calling on Warwickshire County Council to improve the safety on a busy Warwick road following two major crashes this year.

The petition - launched by Cllr Oliver Jacques - has asked for a 20mph speed limit and new crossings to be installed on Spinney Hill and Greville Road.

The move comes after a major crash in June where two cars collided, and another in April where a vehicle mounted the pavement before hitting a wall.

"Residents have witnessed excessive speeding on Spinney Hill and Greville Road on a regular basis," the petition said.

"These crashes are part of an ongoing pattern which demonstrates the current speed limit is failing to keep road users safe.

"Furthermore, our community is split by a road with constantly over speeding traffic, and only the single safe crossing, outside the Chantry shops."

Launched at the start of July, over 150 people have signed the petition so far.

It calls on the local authority to introduce the 20mph speed limit between the Spinney Hill Roundabout and Emscote Road where the limit is currently 30mph.

This as well as making plans for more pedestrian crossings.

"We therefore call on Warwickshire County Council to urgently progress with, and deliver on, existing plans to implement 20mph speed restrictions along Spinney Hill and Greville Road and its adjacent roads," the petition continued.

"We also urge the authority to implement suitable traffic calming measures and to start planning for additional pedestrian crossings.

"Act now, before another preventable crash occurs!"
