The number of passengers using Warwick Parkway station last year was five times more than the year before, according to recent data.

A report published by Steer on behalf of Office of Road and Rail saw a huge jump in travellers across the UK, mainly due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions in place in 2020.

The study analysed ticket sales during the 12 months between the start of April 2021 and the end of March 2022, and then compared this to the same dates a year earlier.

According the report there were 270,714 entries and exits at Warwick Parkway in 2021-22, compared to 52,272 the year before.

Despite this Warwick station still received the most visitors of the town's two stations, with 403,526 in 2021-22.

The report comes as Warwick commuters found out they would be without rail service from Chiltern for nearly a month after the operator announced it would not run any services north of Banbury until the new year.

The news has been heavily criticised by MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western.

The list, which included 24 stations across Warwickshire, was topped by Rugby with nearly 1.7 million entries and exits. It and Leamington Spa had by far the largest number of visitors.

Propping up the list was Polesworth in North Warwickshire which was apparently used just 136 times in 12 months.

Meanwhile in south Warwickshire the station at Bearly was the second quietest in the region, followed by Danzey.
