Latest update on 'Bridge to Nowhere' construciton

Warwickshire County Council has released its latest update on the much-delayed and over-budget works at the A46 Stoneleigh junction.
Shared this week, the most recent post on the council website states that backfilling around the existing structures is "progressing well" and is due to be finished by the end of October "dependant on weather conditions".
While this is happening, the walls around the new bridge are having a coating of waterproofing paint and drainage installed.
"Once completed, the construction of the road box will begin, which is the first step in the new carriageway construction which will link the bridge to the A46," the update added.
"Finally, the material recycling at the material stockpile area is complete, which has provided a large quantity of usable material which is being used for landscaping.
"This reduces the volume of material imported on to site, and with that also reduces the carbon costs of the project."
It was confirmed last month the 'bridge to nowhere' project is set to cost £80 million - over £40 million more than originally planned.
The project was originally due to be finished in 2022 but is now set to rumble on until summer 2027.
The project has been blighted by problems associated with a lack of available backfill material to support the wingwalls, resulting in a redesign and a five-year delay to the reconfigured junction opening.
To make matters worse, the cash-strapped county council is on the hook for every penny overspent.
