A troubled South Warwickshire hotel has opened its doors once again, 18 months after closing.

Wroxall Abbey is taking guests for the first time since January 2025 as its new owners look to turn it into a "destination hotel".

The Birmingham Road venue has had a troubled past with multiple closures, but is now under the management of Kenilworth-born Adrian Cooke and reopened in May.

The team said: "Wroxall Abbey has always been a place where people come together - for celebrations, weddings, family gatherings, afternoon teas, peaceful walks, and moments that become lifelong memories.

"As a family-run business, we are incredibly proud to begin a new chapter for this beautiful historic estate.

"For Adrian, alongside his wife and two daughters, Wroxall Abbey is far more than a business - it is a true passion project.

"Having grown up locally in nearby Kenilworth and always loved this area, bringing Wroxall back to life feels incredibly special and personal to our family."

Wroxall Abbey was handed a boost by Warwick District Council in April as it was awarded a new alcohol licence.

The 48-room hotel is set to host weddings and other events.

After a previous two-year closure, the Birmingham Road estate reopened in 2021 under the Trinity Hotel Group, before closing its doors in August 2022 when the company went into administration.

It was then taken over that September by family-run business ONS International, the director of which - Paresh Thakkar - had been involved in running the hotel with Trinity.

But after two years under the latest ownership (then using the name JGBM Hotel Limited), the hotel closed once again in January last year.

Adrian and the new ownership have said they have a clear vision for bringing the hotel back to the community.

"Our vision is simple: to create a beautiful and welcoming place where people can relax, celebrate, enjoy wonderful food and drink, and make lasting memories together surrounded by the incredible history and grounds of Wroxall Abbey," they added.

"With experience in hospitality through The Manor Elstree, we care deeply about creating somewhere that feels warm, thoughtful, and full of life - a place the community can enjoy for generations to come."
