Green light for 'essential' repair works at Warwick shopfront
Plans to carry out "essential" works to a Warwick shopfront have been given the green light by Warwick District Council.
The British Heart Foundation has been given listed building consent for a series of works at its grade II listed store at Market Place.
The building, which dates back to the 19th century, is said to need an array of work on it, including repointing, brickwork repairs, chimney stack repairs and works around the windows and cills.
Works will also be carried out around the back of the property.
"Repair of the storefront and updated will improve the façade's appearance, boost retail viability and maintain the listed building's original character," the application said.
"General works constitute overdue maintenance of the heritage asset with sympathetic appropriate materials.
"This secures the building's longevity.
"Works are important in order to preserve and maintain the group value of the street scene and central market space of Warwick."
Signing off on the application, a council report said: "It is considered that the proposed works are acceptable, being relatively minor in nature with a remedial focus, resulting in a neutral impact overall.
"The works will ensure the building mains watertight and result in better preservation of the historic fabric through essential maintenance.
"Materials to be introduced are considered sympathetic and overall, the works are considered to maintain the special historic and architectural character of the listed building, with no impact on the conservation area."
