The government has backed plans to build a "game changing" electric car battery factory at Coventry Airport.

The battery factory was given planning approval by Warwick District Council and Coventry City Council earlier this month and the Secretary of State has decided not to review the application.

Developers can now submit a detailed application for the £2.5b factory.

After a four-hour planning meeting on January 11, WDC councillors approved the plans that will see Coventry Airport levelled and a 125-hectare factory built.

The council has given special permission for the factory to be built on green belt land.

But before the plans could go ahead Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove had three weeks to "call-in" the planning decision for review, which he has decided not to do.

Leader of WDC Cllr Andrew Day said it was "great news for the West Midlands.

"Michael Gove has decided not to call-in the gigafactory decision, giving the all clear to grant planning consent for this £2.5b game changer."
