Adult social care in Warwickshire has received a 'good' rating by national watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

A recent assessment into the Warwickshire County Council-run service graded it at 78 out of a possible 100.

A score of 87 or above would have given it the highest rating - 'outstanding'.

The local service scored highly for its 'learning, improvement and innovation' and well for assessing needs, supporting people to live healthier lives, care provision and safeguarding among other categories.

"People who used services and their unpaid carers generally felt happy with the care and support they received from Warwickshire County Council," the CQC wrote.

"They told us they received care and support which suited their needs, goals and preferences and were able to find the advice and information they needed to make choices about their care.

"Assessments were carried out in a person-centred way, with staff taking time to understand each person's situation.

"Most people felt listened to, were involved in decisions and said their views were respected.

"Waiting times for assessments were typically short, and reviews were used to adjust care when needs changed."

Following the assessment, Pete Sidgwick, director of social care and support, said the council is "incredibly proud" of the achievement.

He continued: "This outcome reflects the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our provider market, and the strong partnerships we have across Warwickshire.

"Most importantly, it confirms that we are delivering the right support in the right way - always focused on what matters to the people of Warwickshire who draw on support."
