Photographs taken at the end of last week show works are now underway to turn a former school building in Warwick into homes.

Warwick District Council gave the green light to the scheme for King's High School For Girls earlier this year, with the buildings set to become four houses.

Wake Green (Warwick) Limited recently had seen a previous application to repurpose the Chapel Street site refused by the council.

Issues were raised about lack of parking and the impact of amenity on residents, with the previous application also including three new homes to the rear of the site.

But the updated application, which will convert the three-storey building into four dwellings, found favour with council planners.

"In this case, the proposal retains the existing structure and overall scale of the building and would represent a more sustainable form of development by re-using the existing frame," a council report, approving the application said.

"I am satisfied with the retention of the existing building and the renovation works to re-use the structure."

The report added: "It is also noted that in retaining the main structure of the building, the demolition elements are significantly reduced which with the site being in such close proximity to listed buildings has the potential to result in harm through damage."

No timeline for the development has been given.
