Fresh plans for 34 hectare solar farm along A46 submitted
Plans to build a solar farm the size of 50 football pitches along the A46 near Sherbourne have been resubmitted to Warwick District Council.
Namene Service Company Ltd withdrew its previous application for the site last September, but has now put forward a fresh proposal.
If approved, the scheme would see 34 hectares of agricultural fields, across two parcels of green belt land, covered in solar panels for up to 40 years.
The application says it would take up to six months to build the solar farm.
With a capacity of 25MW, the solar farm would be able to provide enough electricity to power more than 7,560 homes and could save the emission of 13,117 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, according to the application.
At the end of the 40 years, the site would be restored back to fields.
"However, the landscape enhancement measures would remain, providing long-term benefits to the local landscape character of the area," the application said.
"It is envisaged that the decommissioning of the solar park would also take approximately three to six months."
Proposed enhancement features include: creating wildflower meadow strips, fruit tree planting, hedgerow planting and new bat and bird boxes.
The application also says the owners plan to use some of the revenues from the solar farm to plant three rows of trees north of the fields.
