Fresh bid to flatten village home to make way for new house
By James Smith 18th Feb 2026
A fresh bid to demolish a village home and replace it with a new house has been submitted to Warwick District Council.
The local authority last year threw out a scheme which would have seen 'Crossways' in Shrewley flattened to make way for two new homes.
Council planners said the scheme would have seen too many vehicles in the area, leading to "noise and disturbance" to neighbours.
The latest scheme would still see the Shrewley Common property flattened, but only replaced by one house.
The application said: "The proposed development subject of this planning Statement addresses this reason for refusal by reducing the number of proposed dwellings from two to one, thereby reducing the number of vehicle movements from the previous application.
"Crucially, the revised scheme now results in no change in existing vehicle movements by virtue of the existing parking for Crossways being relocated from the existing hardstanding area west of the property, to a new proposed parking area adjacent to the access road.
"As such, vehicles associated to Crossways will no longer be required to pass the neighbouring dwelling, Orchard End, leaving just movements generated from the proposed new dwelling which will essentially match the existing movements."
The application is only an 'outline' plan, meaning a second 'reserved matters' application would also be needed before development could begin.
Plans show the house would likely have four bedrooms.
