Former Aldi could be demolished to make way for Big Yellow Storage

A former Aldi supermarket could be demolished to make way for a huge new storage facility.
Big Yellow Storage has applied for planning permission to demolish the former supermarket on Queensway to make way for the major new facility.
Plans submitted to Warwick District Council show the building would provide 2,530m² of permanent self-storage floor space, with the potential to expand to 7,590m² by adding demountable mezzanine levels.
The Aldi site has been vacant since the discount retailer built a new store next to it.
"The proposed building would act as a barrier between the closest residential and the service area, which would be located over the existing surface car park of the site to the northwest," the application said.
Big Yellow said it held two consultation events with local residents last year, to ask for feedback on the designs.

The refined scheme now includes a 'feature green wall' to break up the appearance of the building.
"The proposed redevelopment aims to create a positive impact on the local area, ensuring the new building integrates smoothly into its surroundings while contributing to the visual and economic vitality of the community," the application continued.
