Electric vehicle chargers could be installed in the stables car park at Warwick Castle, if plans are approved by Warwick District Council.

Raw Charging Network Ltd has applied to build three charging points in the car park, allowing up to six cars to charge at a time.

The application said the points are needed to meet visitor demand.

"In order to ensure that the castle continues to be a successful attraction there is a requirement to restore and maintain its visitor numbers, appeal to wider age ranges and family groups and ensure the revenue stream that is vital for job creation and for repairs is secured," it said.

"As part of this, and in light of the climate crisis, the installation of EV vehicle charging to the stables car park is the beginning of the trend towards green energy and will allow visitors with electric vehicles to park and charge their vehicle while visiting the castle," it added.

"This is especially important for those visitors who have a greater journey time."

If approved, the chargers would all be built next to a timber fence that surrounds a playground, meaning the chargers would not be visible from within the castle grounds.

"Infrastructure that is associated with electric cars will become commonplace and necessary in both historic and modern contexts in order to meet local and national net carbon zero policy," the application added.

Last year Warwick Castle was granted permission to move its overflow car park closer to neighbouring homes.
