A driver who threw a bag of cannabis from his car while being pursued by police has been arrested.

Officers from Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit spotted the BMW on the A46 on Sunday (January 8).

Police say the driver through the bag out the window onto a grass embankment before pulling over and giving himself up.

The driver was arrested after providing a positive drugs test and then further arrested for possession of cannabis after police recovered the bag,

The incident follows another on Friday (January 6) morning where a VW Golf was stopped on Heathcote Lane.

The driver, who only had a provisional license, was driving without supervision or 'L' plates.

A police spokesperson said: "On speaking to the driver it was clear he had been smoking cannabis so we completed a roadside drug test.

"We arrested the driver after he failed the test and took him into custody."
