The developers behind plans for "barrack-style" homes on the edge of Hatton have reduced the number of houses they intend to build.

Altus Homes and Morro Partnerships have already received significant backlash from locals who do not want to see their plans for the estate off Oakdene Crescent approved.

Originally planned for 34 homes, the project on the former Ministry of Defence land was then reduced to 30 homes, but updated designs now plan for just 28.

The application explained: "Acknowledging the local authority's clear preference for reduced numbers and a graded reduction in density across the site, it was decided to further reduce the number of units to 28 as part of this updated submission in order to achieve the desired spatial characteristics and ensure compliance with all technical requirements in regards to separation distances, garden sizes and car parking."

The homes are still expected to be social housing.

If approved, the development would provide a mix of one to four-bedroom houses.

"The proposal will be well suited to its location in an area of predominantly residential character, extending the existing village with minimal impact to neighbouring properties," the application continued.

"The development has been carefully designed to respect and enhance its context, utilising a simple built form with traditional character, all designed in a way which reflects and continues the existing pattern of development and enlivens the streetscape through a rich mix of traditional details.

"Furthermore, the layout has been designed to provide a graduated reduction in density across the site with larger plots and a more open and organic green edge addressing the open space to the east."

More objections have been submitted to the updated proposals.
