Local councils are calling for residents and businesses to suggest more pieces of land in South Warwickshire that could be developed into more housing.

Warwick and Stratford District Councils have this week launched the latest stage of the new local plan - the issues and options consultation – which will run for three months.

The South Warwickshire Local Plan, which is set to be adopted by the end of 2025, has been in progress since early 2021.

The local authorities have already asked locals to suggest areas for development, with some 555 sites identified for new housing and employment land across the region.

But the councils say more sites are needed, and they lave launched a second 'call for sites' consultation.

Warwick District Council's portfolio holder for place and economy, Cllr John Cooke has already urged residents this week to have their say on the plan.

He said: "This is another crucial step in the development of our combined local plan, which will determine where we should locate the homes and employment land that we need in the coming decades and ensure that this development happens in the most sustainable locations – places that work best for people, for businesses and for the environment."

And Cllr Cooke also explained to members of Kenilworth Town Council this week why the second call for sites was needed.

"What we have found is, since the first call for sites, quite a large number of those things that have been proposed, we already know will not be possible," he said.

"And therefore that has also spurred people who didn't put sites forward first, to now bring sites forward."

He added: "You can comment, and people will comment. The comments will all be looked at. Not everyone will get what they want, but there is a process. So please use the interactive map on the website."
