A further £50,000 is set to be spent on the St Mary's Lands Masterplan by Warwick District Council.

The masterplan could see a smaller golf course designed for an entry-level facility to be opened.

And there will also be an assessment on the cost of replacing the driving range.

The money, from the council's community projects reserve, will be spent over two years by contractors Plincke.

There will also be a new design for the golf centre building, plans for a new play area and more maintenance of the cycle track.

And following the council's last consultation back in 2018, there will be another chance for residents to share their views on the land via an online questionnaire.

A report discussed by the council's cabinet last week said: "This is likely to include a preliminary design proposal for re-working the current golf course to achieve a reduced size but enhanced quality to create a more commercially appealing entry level, turn-up and play facility.

"The cost of replacing the driving range would be assessed."

Adding that Plincke would: "Prepare a play area proposal for the site next to the replacement golf centre / hub building, including a low-cost, temporary summer play scheme for 2022 to trial the locations popularity as a play destination.

"Following the outcome of the trial play project, develop a natural play scheme for further consultation."

There will also be a study on local bird-nesting protected areas and investigation into 're-wilding' some of the land.

The £50,000 spend on St Mary's lands was approved by cabinet alongside a £100,000 grant for the St Mary's Church tower works and another £50,000 for Sustrans.

Speaking at last week's cabinet meeting Cllr John Cooke said: "The important thing here is that a certain amount of this money has already been set aside for particular projects."
