Council confirms funding to Warwick District Foodbank
Following the decision made at the full council meeting last month, councillors met with staff and volunteers from Warwick District Foodbank to formally confirm council funding of £52,000 over the next financial year.
The grant has been allocated from the council's 2023/24 budget to support the important work of local foodbanks in providing essential assistance to those in need.
Andy Bower, Warwick District Foodbank operations manager said: "£1,000 per week will enable us to purchase additional food and essential household items as we continue to support the lives of those most in need in our local community who are struggling.
"This grant will make a real difference and we are delighted that the Council has had the foresight to take this very positive initiative."
Cllr Richard Hales, deputy leader, said: "Warwick District Council is proud to support the important work of Warwick District Foodbank and I would like to express our gratitude to the volunteers and staff for their dedication and hard work in providing much needed assistance to so many in our community."
The council also voted to freeze council tax for the second year in a row, a decision which has been criticised by Green and Liberal Democrats councillors.
