Warwick District Council's Cabinet has agreed to move forward with two major community projects for the Fusilier Way area, south of Warwick.

The first is the creation of the Myton Path, a new walking and cycling route linking Myton Road and Fusiliers Way.

The second is the construction of a new athletics track, which will replace the current facility at Edmondscote.

The plans also include a new vehicle entrance at the back of Myton and Warwick Schools.

Councillors approved £950,000 to fund the detailed design and preparation needed before a full planning application can be submitted.

At the same meeting, which took place on 3 September, Councillors also received an update on Tachbrook Country Park.

This new park, which received planning permission in 2022, will cover 49 hectares (121 acres) and stretch between Leamington Spa, Whitnash, Warwick and Bishop's Tachbrook.

It will be one of the largest public green spaces in the district, with car-free routes connecting new schools to nearby housing.

Councillors were informed of a significant rise in costs against the original project estimate from 2022 and were presented with a revised baseline approach to the delivery of the country park.

This revised approach, which reduces the project costs considerably and offers a more biodiversity-friendly option, was approved.

Whilst some features of the original country park plans have not been retained, the essential core of the agreed planning permission remains in place.
